Every summer, the Edinburgh festivals bring a wave of colour and soaring excitement to the city. Seven spectacular festivals proudly serve up the most incredible variety of culture you could ever imagine, filling the city's performance venues and event spaces and gardens throughout the July and August. the city of Edinburgh truly come alive at ths time of year.

During the Edinburgh Fringe you will see the Royal Mile filling up, alongside large pop-up venues and small cellar spaces. This is the largest street fair of its kind anywhere in the world. The Fringe is an open-access festival where anybody who wants to perform can, and last year, more than 20,000 artists took up the invitation! It can be difficult to know what to see, but that’s half the fun of the Edinburgh Fringe experience.

Hailed as the world's largest arts festival, The Edinburgh Fringe transforms Scotland’s capital every August. Thousands of performers will take to hundreds of stages all over the city to present shows for every taste. From big names in the world of entertainment to unknown artists looking to build their careers.

Established in 1947 as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival, it takes place annually in Scotland's capital, in August. The Fringe is a showcase for the performing arts, with show categories including Cabaret, Children's shows, Comedy, Dance, Physical Theatre & Circus, Events, Exhibitions, Music, Musicals and Opera, Spoken Word and Theatre.

In addition to the ticketed programme of events, the Fringe Street Events hosted by Virgin Money run each day of the festival, primarily on the Royal Mile and at the Mound Precinct.
